  About the Employment Training Program

The Employment Training Program (ETP) is a national leader in developing and implementing support services for adults with disabilities. Our goal is to provide resources to individuals with a disability seeking to establish themselves as independent, contributing members of their community.

ETP was the first training program in the nation designed to train and place adults with developmental disabilities into competitive employment. We made our first successful placement in 1976.

Our Employment Specialists look for jobs in the community that match the skills and needs of the individuals in our program. They provide on-the-job training once a client is hired and gradually reduce their presence as the person becomes increasingly independent.

While they are still at the job site, the Employment Specialists provide consultation to supervisors and co-workers to help make everyone's adjustment to the new employee more comfortable.

Initial Contact With ETP

If both you and your VRC agree that the ETP is an appropriate program to consider, the VRC will call our main office and arrange for a meeting. You, any support person, parent, or legal guardian you request or require, your VRC, and an Employment Specialist from ETP will all attend. This support person, or any other of your choice, may be present with you at any time, throughout your stay in ETP, that you feel they would be useful in the decision making processes. At this meeting, the ETP Employment Specialist will tell you about the program and answer your questions.

They will also ask you questions about your interests, skills, experience, and general background. This information is needed to become better acquainted with you and to determine if we can be of service. If everyone at the meeting agrees that the Employment Training Program can help you, the VRC will start the process by writing an Employment Plan.
