Definition: Locating, obtaining, and/or retaining employment for a DVR participant, consistent with his or her vocational goal, when the participant is unable to perform these job placement functions on their own or with direct assistance by DVR staff.

Outcomes:
  • To identify and obtain placement in job consistent with vocational goal(s).
1. Assisted Job Development.
This option includes:
  • 1 to 2 hours per week of 1:1 training on job seeking and interviewing skills
  • Provision of appropriate job leads
  • Task analysis of complex jobs
  • Support in making cold calls
  • Resume development
  • Motivational support
  • 1:1 support during job interview, if necessary
2. Full Service Job Development and Placement.
Includes the components listed under assisted job development, and
  • extensive job market research
  • development of networks with and for the participant
  • negotiating (as necessary) with employers on behalf of the participant
  • coordination of transportation
3. Job Retention Services (negotiated on a performance basis).
Often, participants need support, problem solving, and advocacy services in order to maintain employment. Under this service option, Division staff will visit the job site weekly after the participant has demonstrated acquisition of critical vocational skills and task mastery independence, to:
  • ensure generalization and maintenance of skills, such as production speed and social skills
  • trouble-shoot
